Almedalen Week 2026
Almedalsveckan describes itself as the world's largest democratic meeting place for social issues, open to everyone who wants to take part in the democratic conversation. The main organisers are the local political parties represented in the Riksdag, and Region Gotland is the host. The week runs Monday to Friday and all events are free.
The week has its origins in the party political speeches that have been given in Almedalen since the summer of 1968. The parties share the days, with two speeches a day from the Almedalen stage, at 12 noon and 7 pm. The speeches are broadcast by SVT and can be watched afterwards.
The official programme is created by the organisations that contribute events. In 2026 it included just over 3,150 events from 1,900 organisers, and around 120,000 visitors moved in and around Almedalen. One of the areas was the economy and the labour market, with many seminars on productivity, skills supply, AI and entrepreneurship.
The events are concentrated in the area around Almedalen in the heart of the World Heritage town of Visby. With several hundred seminars a day, the organiser recommends good planning with room for breaks, and booking travel and accommodation well in advance. In the official programme you can create your own printable programme, filtered by topic, day and accessibility.
